De Boer Staal for mega-yachtDecember 2007 – October 2007 – After a number of difficult years, Dutch shipbuilding is prospering again. The yacht construction market is also doing well. Orders for mega-yachts are pouring in. For the hull of a mega-yacht (construction number Y704) De Boer Staal has supplied approximately 600 tonnes of sheet steel and bulb flats. The Y704 is the largest yacht hull ever built in the Netherlands. And after thirteen months of hard work, there was a lot of interest when the hull was launched. It was built for OceAnco by Zwijnenburg b.v. from Krimpen aan de IJssel. Zwijnenburg is the regular hull builder for OceAnco, one of the largest yacht builders in the Netherlands. Zwijnenburg also engages in shipbuilding and building work. De Boer Staal regularly teams up with Zwijnenburg, and it delivered the sheet steel and the Holland profiles (Grade A quality) for the Y704.Every luxury on boardThe construction of the Y704 will be completed in Alblasserdam and the vessel will be delivered in late 2008. This mega-yacht is 86.7 metres long, 13.8 metres wide and weighs 800 tonnes. It costs more than 1 million euros per metre and will accommodate 12 to 14 passengers and 32 crew. It will be furnished with a swimming pool, a helicopter landing deck, a gym and lifts. There will also be three jet-skis on board, as well as three boats measuring four, six and twelve metres in length. These boats are needed to go ashore, because the draught of the vessel is too deep to moor alongside the jetty in, for example, Monaco! |
